Prayer for Strength, Healing & Hope
Oh, Great Spirit whose voice I hear in the winds
Whose breath gives life to the world, hear me
I come to you as one of your many children
I am small and weak
I need your strength & wisdom.
Help me to remain calm & strong
In the face of all that comes towards me.
Help me seek pure thoughts
And act with the intention of helping others.
Help me find compassion
Without empathy overwhelming me.
May I walk in beauty.
Make my eyes ever behold the red & purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have made
And my ears sharp to your voice.
Make me wise so that I may know the things you have taught your children.
The lessons you have written in every leaf and rock
Make me strong……….!
Not to be superior to my brothers, but to fight my greatest enemy…myself
Make me ever ready to come to you with straight eyes,
So that when life fades as the fading sunset,
May my spirit come to you without shame.
Translated by Chief Yellow Lark, 1887
God’s healing energy flows through me now…
Just for today I will let go of anger
Just for today I will let go of worry
Just for today I will give thanks for my many blessings
Just for today I will do my work honestly
Just for today I will be kind to my neighbor and all living things.
Mother Theresa prays:
Dear Lord, the Great Healer, I kneel before you
Since every perfect gift must come from you
I pray, give skill to my hands, clear vision to my mind, kindness and meekness to my heart.
Give me singleness of purpose, strength to lift up part of the burden of my suffering fellow man and a true realization of the privilege that is mine.
Take from my heart all guile & worldliness,
That with the simple faith of a child, I may rely on you
From A Simple Path p. 82, Mother Theresa
Prayer of Peace
Lord make me a channel of thy peace, that
Where there is hatred, I may bring love
That where there is wrong,
I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;
That where there is discord, I may bring harmony;
That where there is error I may bring truth;
That where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
That where there is despair, I may bring hope;
That where there are shadows,
I may bring light;
That where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted,
To understand than to be understood
To love than to be loved.
For it is by forgetting self that one finds;
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven;
It is by dying that one awakens to eternal life.
St. Francis of Assisi
Prayer of Serenity
The serenity to accept
The things I cannot change,
Courage to change
The things I can,
And wisdom to
A Franciscan Benediction
May God bless us with,
Discomfort at easy answers,
Half truths, and superficial
So that we may live deep
Within our hearts.
May God bless us with
Anger at injustice
Oppression and exploitation of people,
So that we may work for justice, freedom
May God bless us with
Tears to shed for those who
Suffer from pain, rejection, starvation and war,
So that we may reach out our hands to comfort them
And turn their pain to joy.
And may God bless us with enough
Foolishness to believe that we can make a difference
In this world,
So that we can do what others claim
Cannot be done
